2021 is here, and we are already getting prepared for the 14th edition of IPL. Last year, because of the covid pandemic, we had seen many changes from the usual IPL changes. But the real question is, what the new changes that we get to see in the 14th edition of IPL are? And how will it be different from the IPL 2020.
Well, in this article, I am only going to talk about some leaks, rumors, and news that indicate how different IPL 2021 will be from IPL 2020.
So here we go:
1. Crowd returns to the stadium:
Last year in IPL 2020, one thing that was majorly missing is the crowd from the stadium. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, IPL 2021 was hosted in UAE. While it had all the thrill, action, drama. But one thing that we all missed was the crowd in stadiums.
However, this year we might get to see the crowd returning back to the stadium. As there have been rumors and news that IPL 2021 will be hosted in India only. Also, the fans will be allowed in the stadium.
But yes, the audience will have proper safety and coronavirus guidelines. One of the main reasons why the crowd might return to the stadiums is because BCCI wants to generate more revenue. Also, crowd presence boosts players’ confidence.
2. Revamped teams:
We will also get to see revamped teams in the IPL 2021. BCCI is likely to conduct a full auction of the IPL 2021. The auction is said to be hosted in the month of February. However, the earlier leaks said that it would get hosted in December or the first week of January.
But as of now, there is no such information on when the actual auction will happen. But BCCI will discuss the matter with franchises before coming to any conclusions.
3. New Sponsor:
Dream11 is also going to be replaced as the title sponsor for the 2021 Indian Premier League or IPL. This change is going to come due to BCCI’s five year deal with Chinese smartphone manufacturing company Vivo in 2018.
However, last year they were replaced with IPL betting app Dream11 due to the ongoing tension between the two countries.
Also, it is said that Dream11 will not be staying on the board for the next two seasons after its conditional three-year proposal was rejected due to “low” bid amounts for 2021 and 2022.
4. Some players won’t be around:
In IPL 2021, we are also going to miss some of the big names in IPL Cricket matches. For example, Stalwart Shane Watson from CSK recently announced his retirement from all types of cricket. As a result, it is obvious that he will not be playing the IPL 2021.
Similarly, there are quite a lot of other players who will also not be playing the IPL 2021. Some of the names are Harbhajan Singh, Dale Steyn, Amit Mishra, Imran Tahir, and so on.
However, there is no official news about this release yet. And it will only get cleared after the IPL 2021 auction occurs.
5. Motera Stadium to host games:
As you probably already know that, the Motera Stadium in Gujarat went for a renovation. As a result, the stadium has now got a capacity of 110,000. Also, it is one of the largest stadiums as per capacity.
Also, it is said that the revamped stadium in Ahmedabad is set to host IPL matches next year. Also, IPL 2021 could feature a ninth team, and that could be from Gujarat, with Motera being their home ground.
However, whether a new team from Gujarat will be playing IPL 2021 or not will only get cleared in the upcoming days.
So these are some of the changes that will make IPL 2021 different from the IPL 2021. However, more changes will only get unveiled as the IPL season comes close. Till then, we will only need to wait for the official confirmation and news.
Anyway, what do you think about this? If you have any thoughts to share, then do comment below.
